Frank Levy Scotts Valley, CA - Frank Levy passes; Educator, Musician, Husband, Father Frank Levy passed away peacefully at the age of 80, surrounded by his loved ones in Scotts Valley, California. Frank was born in 1942, in Brookline, Mass, to parents Isabelle and Abraham Robert, and spent his childhood there. Having a deep love of music and a passion for education, Frank obtained his Master of Arts degree in Music and Music Education from Columbia University. He went on to teach Elementary School Music in Poughkeepsie NY, and from 1966 through 2001, had an illustrious 35-year career as a music educator within the Bergenfield, New Jersey Public School system. In addition to growing the renowned marching band to over 200 members and helping all areas of the BHS Music Department to flourish, he managed and was on the executive board of many of the regional music programs, and was a frequent guest lecturer for Music Education at Montclair State, Patterson State, and New Jersey City University. He also worked as a judge for Drum Corps International for many years. Frank earned the respect of his peers and inspired many of his students to follow his footsteps and pursue a career in Music Education. Frank was an avid lover of Opera, Musical Theater, and the Symphony. After retiring to the Santa Cruz Mountains he worked with local community theaters as a producer as well as music director, conductor, actor and clarinet player. While teaching in Poughkeepsie, Frank met his wife Cecilia, with whom he enjoyed 57 happy years of marriage. Cecilia was Frank's primary caregiver, and he was treated with care and love through the very end. He is survived by Cecilia and his two sons, Edward and Robert, as well as his grandchildren, Christopher, Harmony, Fintan and Lucy. In memory of Mr. Levy, we ask that donations be made to The Friends of Music at Bergenfield Public Schools, 80 South Prospect Ave, Bergenfield NJ 07621, where donations in Mr. Levy's name will go directly into the Frank Levy Scholarship Fund.
